Berry Smoothie bowl topped with nuts

The Ultimate Berry Smoothie Bowl

The most common question Ive been getting about my super thick and creamy Smoothie Bowls is what is the difference between a Smoothie Bowl and just a regular Smoothie? And How do I count this on WW?  Both good questions!

First let me answer the WW question.  For me, I dont count blended fruit as points as long as its a serving I would eat, whole and raw, in one sitting.  SO for example, would I eat 1/2 C of blueberries and a 1/2 C of strawberries?  Yes, so for me that is ZERO points.  If its going to be more than that, I count it as 1 point per extra half cup of fruit.

Additionally, WW has now taken  the stand that if you eat the fruit with a spoon then it isnt counted BUT if you drink it, you have to count it.  SO, as Ive always said from the beginning on that one, do what works for you in your WW world!

Now as to the difference between a bowl and a smoothie. Smoothie Bowls aren’t meant to be gulped down like a Big Gulp of fountain soda!  They are made to be a meal topped with healthy nuts, cocnut flakes, more fruit or even some Cacao Nibs.

A smoothie bowl is meant to feel like a real meal with layers of flavor and textures!  I love adding crunch to my bowls. Slivered almonds, peanuts, pistachios, grapenuts cereal, even Cheerios make it so scrumptious!

Smoothie bowls also have to be thick because they are designed for toppings! Add some chunky granola for some  sustained energy to help  keep you full throughout the day!  Go ahead, these bowls will hold up like a champ!

The best bowls WW Smoothie Bowls in my opinion, mix  fats with low glycemic fruits (like berries)  and nutrient-rich green leafy vegetables.  I love freezing the mixed bags that have kale, baby spinach, spinach collard greens and more! And I promise, you will NOT taste the greens at all!

If you dont care for the Premier Protein shake in the recipe, you can always sub that out for some unsweetened alond milk or any plant based milk you love!  You could even use water.

Smoothie bowls are a perfect choice for those who arent egg lovers but want to transition away from the sugary cereals that are known to spike blood sugar, kill your points for the day and really offer almost nothing nutritionally.

Give this Berry Bowl a try!  I promise you will love it!

Berry Smoothie Bowl

This recipe is THE base for a thick, creamy berry smoothie!
Prep Time5 minutes
Course: Breakfast, lunch, Snack
Cuisine: American
Keyword: blended, blender, frozen fruit, fruit, smmothie, smoothie bowl, ww
Servings: 1 person
Calories: 110kcal

Equipment

  • Magic Bullet (I will link it below)

Ingredients

  • 1/4 C Non fat Greek Yogurt Use a good quality thick one if possible like Fage or Chobani
  • 1/4 C Vanilla Premier Protein Shake Or any kind you like
  • 1/2 C Unsweetened Frozen Bing Cherries
  • 1/2 C Unsweetened Frozen Blueberries
  • 1 C Greens I get the mixed greens and freeze them

Instructions

  • Layer all ingredients in your Magic Bullet or a strong blender like a Vitamix. I find the Magic bullet or even a food processor works best. Begin blending. Sometimes you have to open the lid and mix the ingredients up since you are using thick and frozen ingredients but try not to add liquid. Too much liquid will turn it into a Smoothie DRINK not a bowl! Top with whatever you love!

Notes

I do not count blended fruit as points so for me Im only counting toppings.
