Mixed nuts on a pan

Spicy Maple Nuts

Why you need nuts in your diet

  1. Almonds. Almonds are one of the most popular nuts due to their delicious taste and versatility.  PLUS they are very high in calcium.  Many people prefer than as a milk product as opposed to dairy.
  2. Pecans. Pecans contain dietary fiber, which is great for your digestion and helps your body rid itself of toxins and in essence, aiding in weight loss, making them a Weight Watchers favorite!
  3. Hazelnuts.  These little gems are not only fabulous tasting but they are also very high in magnesium and good for your heart.
  4. Macadamia.  These are my favorite!  They are rich in anti oxidants and many nutrients. They are very low in carbs however very high in fats.  I have to be careful with these!
  5. Walnuts. Ahhh the nut of Christmas time.  Well, in my family anyway. These luscious crunchers are help lower inflammation, aid in weight control and are also lower in carbs.
Nuts in a fancy bowl

Moderation is the key with nuts.  You can’t go NUTS with the NUTS!  Although loaded with healthy fats they are also very calorie dense.  The good part is that you don’t need a lot to feel full at all.  About 1/4 C is a normal serving of nuts and if you add a little bit of cheese and maybe a handful of strawberries, you have a healthy filling snack or even light lunch.

I love make little packets of these items up as “grab and gos.”  I note the WW points on the baggie and I know exactly what Im eating on the run. When Im out working I always have something healthy with me that will help keep me satiated with good food!

Just because nuts are high(ish) in Weight Watchers points does not mean you should not indulge.  You should!  In fact, I think you will find them to be an integral part of keeping you full and satisfied on your diet journey.  It definitely works for me! My mindset is if youre going to indulge, do it with a healthy fat instead of sugar!  15 points of savory nuts and cheese is far better than 15 points of say .. twinkies, right?!

So ….. nuts in moderation are a GO!
