5 reasons Weight Watchers (WW) works!

My whole life I’ve been ..thick.  I wore the “Husky” sizes as a child.  My pants never fit so I had to shop in the boys department.  Even at 7 yrs old, I felt it. I convinced myself I was a “Tomboy” and it was totally OK to shop for clothes in the boys aisles. I was good at sports and I could throw a baseball harder than most of my male class mates so why would it be a big deal to shop where they did?

I mean lets face it.  Who wants to wear dresses and lacy shirts?  Who wants to have a thin waist and tiny arms? How were you supposed to whip a ball from 3rd to 1st in a flash?

No, that wasnt me. I was perfectly fine in sweatpants and big sweatshirts.  In the summer stretchy shorts and huge t-shirts were perfect for me!  The other little girls could wear that frilly stuff.  That was just not my thing!

And then Middle School hit ....

Heavy picture of my face

All of a sudden, I DID want to wear pretty dresses, cute skirts and the tops the other girls were wearing. I really did want to! So I made a statement and told my mom that Id like to start dressing like the other girls. I wanted to try the new jeans that were new in stores.  The ones all the popular, pretty girls were wearing.  I wanted to look like them.  Reluctantly my mom took me to the store to find those jeans. I could tell by the look on her face something was wrong but in the dressing room I went, super excited to see how great Id look in these new acid wash jeans!

Well, the first pair didnt fit. In fact, I couldnt even get them over my hips.  Ok no problem — get me a bigger size I yelled out of the dressing room.  She came back with another pair.  I was able to get these over my hips but the but the zipper wouldnt go up….at all.  Not even close. Ok I thought, this time less encouraged.

Can you try another size?  A little bigger?  My mother came back with another pair.  Same problem.  At that moment as I saw myself, stuffed into these jeans that I so desperately wanted to wear, I realized I was just “Naturally Fat.”

Born to be big?

Before and after pics

Yeah, that was it.  I was just big.  I had big broad shoulders, a thick gut, big arms.  I was destined to look like this. I was just a bigger girl.

Through the years, I struggled with this.  Id try to lose weight, and sometimes Id get results.  But it would never last.  I tried crash diets, soup diets and not eating at all.  I carried too much weight for many years and even developed high blood pressure at 23 yrs old. In my mind I knew — nothing out there would work for me.

The TV introduced me to the ZERO point list

One evening I was vegging out on Cheez its in bed and saw a commercial for Weight Watchers.  They were rolling out a program with over 200 Zero point foods. People were eating, having fun and losing weight.  Or so they said.  Sure they were I thought!

But for some reason I kept dwelling on the Weight Watchers ad. So I went to my computer and looked up the Zero point list.  Chicken breast, eggs, all kinds of vegetables.  Hmmmmm I liked all of these things.  Are they actually saying I can eat all this AND lose this tire that  had accumulated around my waist?

What do I have to lose, I thought?  It will either work OR it will be another failed diet on a long list of them for me.  SO I put a toe in for 3 month.  Here we are 2 years later and Im still at goal and maintaining the loss I was able to accomplish in the first 5 months!  So here are the 5 reasons I think WW (Weight Watchers) works and why it will work for you!

5 reasons you WILL succeed!

My youtube channel below

#1 Choices

You will have choices, not restrictions.  This is HUGE for me mentally!  You will not be told what you cannot eat.  You will be given point values to every food you may want to eat and you will make the determination if it is worth spending the points on that food or not.  Ice Cream?  YES! Pasta? YES! Bread and butter? YES!   You will NEVER feel deprived on this lifestyle diet.  Its all about the choices you make!

#2 Out to Eat

You can eat out!  The WW app has a huge database of popular restaurants that many people like to frequent.  Places like McDonalds, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell and more.  If you’re out for the day and become stricken with hunger, all you have to do is check your app on your phone and look up some nearby eateries for some choices.  I even do this when Im at home and I want to plan a night out for dinner.  It allows me to plan where I want to go and plan my day to eat whatever I choose at dinner!

#3 You can change it up

Weight Watchers (WW) is an overall lifestyle.  Because you can choose to eat whatever foods you like it is very easy to stay on the plan.  And now, in 2020, WW has rolled out 3 different plans you can choose from even further opening up food options and choices.  Personally, I like to eat low carb so I have chosen the Blue Plan. I feel it gives me enough choices to stay satisfied and successful.  If you like to eat Carbs, and they like you, you may choose to go with a different plan such as the Purple plan.  They even allow you to change plans and try out different “color plans” to see if something fits better for you!

#4 Categories

Once you get into the swing of understanding the WW plan you choose, you will quickly realize the Zero point foods and all the other foods, which are given Smartpoint values, are very easy to “memorize.”  By that I mean, fruits are zero points, non starchy veggies are zero points, many proteins are 1 point per ounce.  Everything seems to fall into easy logical categories.  You know something with a lot of sugar or fat will be higher in points.  It just makes it easier to take an educated overall glance at any food which is something we will need to do for long term success.

#5 Room for cake!

You will be given a point “bank.” For example I get 23 Smartpoints on the WW Blue Plan. I also get 28 weeklies to use for a treat meal or however I choose to allot those extra points.  Some extra cheese on a burger, a small cone after a meal, a second slice of pizza.  Its my choice! I love that! Personally, I use them for a “treat meal” when Ive had a good week or if I have a birthday party or some kind of celebration Id like to plan for. The weeklies are the BEST!
